Learning to play Bagpipes or Drums:
Have you ever stood on a parade route, heard the stirring sound of Scotland the Brave, and thought, “I wish I could be part of that”? Now you can!
We offer group lessons for anyone interested in learning to play the bagpipes, snare (side) drum, tenor drum, or bass drum. Whether you’re brand new or looking to brush up on your skills, we welcome learners of all ages—from 18 to 75 years young.
New students are welcome to join at any time of year!
About the Program
We launched our first program on September 18, 2014, and since then, we’ve helped dozens of pipers and drummers find their rhythm and confidence. Lessons are held weekly on Tuesday evenings, with breaks over Christmas, Spring Break, and August.
Time: Arrive at 6:45 PM
Lessons: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Pipe Band Practice: 8:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Wrap-Up: Depart by 9:00 PM
Learning Program Structure

Our music program is divided into four levels, each with experienced instructors:
🎵 Introduction to Bagpiping (Beginners)
Ideal for those with little or no music background (or those who already read music), this program sets a strong foundation. All materials are provided, and starter gear is available to purchase through the band.
🥁 Introduction to Drumming (Beginners)
Learn basic rhythm, technique, and music reading skills for snare, tenor, or bass drums. As with piping, all materials are supplied to help you get started right.
🎼 Junior (Novice) Piping
Ready to move beyond the practice chanter? If you’ve been playing for at least 6 months to a year and can read pipe music, you’ll start learning to tune and maintain your own set of bagpipes. You’ll need to purchase your pipes at this stage—ask us for guidance and preferred suppliers!
🥁 Junior (Novice) Drumming
If you’ve got the basic rudiments and can sight-read drum music, you’ll move into full drumming on your chosen instrument and ready to start on the side (snare), tenor or bass drum. Instruments are loaned by the band with a signed agreement. Care and maintenance are your responsibility.
